A life well lived: Vernon Johnnie Jordan Sr. born November 23, 1933 to the union of Johnnie Jordan and Rachael Riley Jordan in Baton Rouge, LA. passed away on Friday, May 21,  2021.  He was a Native of Baton Rouge and was raised in the Scotlandville community where he attended the Southern University Demonstration School. Upon his graduation in 1951 he enlisted in the U.S. Airforce and served during the Korean War. Receiving a multitude of recommendations from his superior officers during his tour of duty in the Airforce and the Louisiana National Guard, Vernon enrolled in Southern University A&M college where he attended until March of 1960. As a young vivrant Political Science major and human rights activist paired with a life long friend and law student, John Garner, Vernon participated in human rights demonstrations and sit-ins in the Baton Rouge community that would result in him being expelled from Southern University A&M College.  The group of students would become known as the "SU Sixteen''. Because of his activism in April of 1960 Vernon and the rest of the "SU Sixteen '' by order of the governor of Louisiana were not allowed to attend college in the state of Louisiana. As a result, Vernon enrolled in the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff where he graduated in 1964 with a degree in Political Science. In 2004, forty four years later, Vernon Jordan and the "SU sixteen received honorary degrees from Southern University A&M College. Vernon is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity Inc. Vernon is preceded in death by both parents, five brothers, and five sisters. Vernon Jordan is survived by  wife Edna Henley Jordan and five children, Charlotta Carter,( peter) Desimonae Anderson,( wessel )Vernon Jordan II, ( Latasha) Christopher Jordan, DeShawn Jordan, thirteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  Viewing Friday, June 4, 2021 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Shiloh Baptist Church 185 Eddie Robinson Sr. Dr,  Baton Rouge, LA. Religious services will be Friday June 4, 2021 at 12 P.M. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church 185 Eddie Robinson Sr Dr, Baton Rouge, LA (Masks are required at ALL times due to Covid 19).
