Simon Reed Jr., affectionately known as "Gashun," was born on November 19, 1934, in Leonville, Louisiana. He was the second oldest of nine siblings. He peacefully departed this life on November 3, 2024, at his home in Central Louisiana.
For over 50 years, Simon was self-employed as a contractor, earning a reputation as a well-known figure in Central Louisiana, Baton Rouge, and the surrounding areas. His passion for his work was evident, as he continued to labor in his trade until the remarkable age of 89.
Simon was not just a dedicated worker; he had a vibrant personality and cherished his family and friends. He had a unique ability to connect with others, never meeting a stranger. His zest for life was infectious; he found joy in watching wrestling, dancing, and playfully considering himself the "Karate Kid." He was also known for his sharp dressing, not to mention the love he had for wearing his cowboy hat and boots.
He was a master storyteller and a jokester whose spirit will forever be remembered. Simon lived life to the fullest, and his legacy will remain in our hearts. He leaves to cherish his memories the love of his three daughters: Brenella Reed (Darryl Snell) of Prairieville, LA; Brenda Harris of Baton Rouge, LA (Torlaf Conner); and Tracy Richard (Adrien) of Sunset LA; along with a bonus son, Stephen Louis, of Central LA. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, one godchild, and three sisters: Odelia Jerry, Laura Mae Thompson, and Velma Reed. Additionally, he leaves behind three sisters-in-law: Ruby Amos Richard, Betty Williams (Grady), and Elodie Amos Dargin (Rodney), as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Victoria Reed, of 65 years; his parents, Simon Reed Sr. and Lorena Jones Reed; his son, Lester Reed Sr.; grandson, Lester Reed Jr.; two great-grandsons, Devontea' Reed and Roderic Wayne Herring; three brothers, Edward Reed, Lawrence (John) Reed, Joseph Reed, and Paul (James) Reed; and two sisters, Rose Mae Davis and Edna Mae Barnaby.

Services for Simon Reed Jr. will be held on November 9, 2024, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 3912 Gus Young Ave., Baton Rouge, LA.
Viewing will be from 8 AM to 9 AM, followed by the Rosary at 9 AM and Funeral Services at 10 AM.
Burial will take place at Southern Memorial Gardens, 3012 Blount Rd, Baton Rouge, LA 70807.
