Sammie Lee
Sr Kaufman
Apr 13, 1946 — Sep 22, 2024
Baton Rouge
Bro. Sammie Lee Kaufman, Sr., (Peewee), the fourth of eleven siblings, was born on April 13, 1946, in Tunica, Louisiana to the late Max Kaufman, Sr. and Anna Lou Newton Kaufman.
He made his transition at 5:20 A.M. Sunday, September 22, 2024, when an angel of the Lord entered his room, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Baton Rouge, LA, and transported the soul of the Heavenly Father's child.
Sammie accepted Christ as his personal savior and was baptized by the late Dr. C. N. Burrell, Sr., at Greater New Galilee Baptist Church. During his childhood years, Sammie attended Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. He later united with Greater King David Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Dr. John E. Montgomery, II, where he was a faithful member of Wednesday's Bible class and Sunday service. After COVID-19, Sammie was unable to attend service in person due to health conditions. On several occasions he would visit St. John B.C., for their Family and Friends Day, Annual Love Banquet and the Women's Conference. In 2005, Sammie volunteered his time with the Katrina shelter at St. John B.C.
He received his education from the East Baton Rouge Parish public school system. On August 7, 1968, Sammie married the love of his life, Ella Mae Taylor. He really enjoyed watching football games and going on cruises. In his spare time if you needed him to babysit, he was always willing to do so.
Sammie was employed with Enterprise Transportation for over thirty years. After retiring he was employed part time with Jani-King Janitorial services.
He leaves to cherish his memories, four daughters: April Wesley, Eugena Kaufman and Ashton Brown, all of Baton Rouge; and Paulette Taylor Gibbs of Tulsa, OK; two sons: Roderick Hudson of Long Beach, CA; Sammie L. Kaufman, Jr., (Kathy) of Dallas, TX; two sisters: Earnestine (Vincent) Hamilton and Bernice (Rev. Donald) Ruth, both of Baton Rouge; two brothers: Leo M. Kaufman and Mark A. Kaufman, both of Baton Rouge; one sister-in-law; Barbara Kaufman of Baton Rouge; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Taylor Kaufman; parents, Max and Anna Lou Kaufman; two sisters and five brothers.
