Rebecca Jean Douglas Atkins, a native of Sicily Island, Louisiana, and a resident of Baton
Rouge, Louisiana, was born on May 10, 1958, to the union of Willie Burnell Sr. and Irene
Douglas. Rebecca peacefully transitioned to her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at
Baton Rouge General Regional Medical Center.
Rebecca was a 1976 graduate of Sicily Island High School. Soon after graduation, she relocated
to Las Vegas, Nevada, where she later gave birth to her son, Demarlo L. Douglas of Baton
Rouge, Louisiana. Rebecca was baptized at an early age by Reverend E. G. Lumpkin at Saint
Paul Number One Baptist Church in Wisner, Louisiana.
In 1979, Rebecca married John Atkins, and to this union one son was born, William B. Atkins of
Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Upon moving to Baton Rouge, Rebecca joined Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, now known as
World Shakers Church International, under the leadership of Overseer Clarence Budgewater Sr.,
Dr. Jeffery G. Phillips, and currently Pastor Jeremiah Phillips. Throughout her years of faithful
service, Rebecca worked diligently in several ministries, including the Mass Choir, Hospitality
Team, Prison Ministry, Greeters, Altar Workers, and Intercessory Prayer. In her later years, she
served faithfully as an intercessor until her health declined.
Rebecca was also a devoted professional, serving as an office manager at Law Office of Victor
Woods, where she lovingly served and supported countless clients throughout the years.
Rebecca leaves to cherish her loving memories her two sons, Demarlo L. Douglas and William
(Jasmine) Atkins, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; one daughter, Charmaine Porter of Baton
Rouge, Louisiana; twelve siblings: First Lady Wilma Phillips (Mom) of Central Louisiana; Dr.
Cynthia (Stanley) Bienemy of Zachary, Louisiana; Attorney Victor (Dr. Jewel Crockett) Woods
of Addis, Louisiana; Gloria (David Sr.) Thomas of Winnsboro, Louisiana; Marie Stewart of
Galveston, Texas; Carolyn (Tommy) Mack of Baker, Louisiana; Tommy Sr. (Joanne) Henry;
Janice Douglas; Shirley (Marvin Sr.) Price, Vertabell Lanehart; Margaree Haney; and Willie
Burnell Jr. (Paula) Douglas, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
She also leaves four grandchildren: Ja'Mir Atkins, Branna Holmes, and Gracie Atkins of Baton
Rouge, Louisiana, and Zanria Atkins of Norwood, Louisiana; one great-granddaughter, Ja'lia
Atkins of Atlanta, Georgia; six godchildren: Sandra Grisby, Victoria Douglas, Jeremiah Grisby,
Miracle Grisby, Kashala Smart, and Zoe Brown, all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and her beloved
dog, Marshmallow Atkins.
Rebecca also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends who will
forever cherish her memory.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Burnell Sr. and Irene Douglas; her brother,
Robert Douglas; her sisters, Sandra Faye Douglas and Ilene Douglas; and her beloved dog,
