Obituary

Melvin Adams was born August 3, 1950 to the late Charlie and Levanna Adams, in Baton Rouge, La. He was the seventh child of 9 children. Melvin transitioned his earthly life on July 5, 2021 most peacefully.

A Time to Live…

Melvin excepted Christ as his personal savior at the age of 8 and was baptized at New Light B.C under the leadership of the late Rev. N.C Chinn, he remained a faithful member under the leadership of Dr. H.B. Williams. At and early age the Lord anointed and gifted Melvin with a voice to sing and hands to play the piano and organ. He helped organize and was the musician for New Light first chair bean choir with Sis Mary Guerin. His musical talent moved him to many other places such as Bethlehem Baptist Church, Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church both under the leadership of the late Dr. H. B. Williams and many other churches thought the Baton Rouge, an New Orleans areas.

Melvin graduated from Scotlandville Senior High School in 1968 and attended Southern University, He stated one day "that college was not for him" So enlisted in the United States Air Force and served until he was Honorably Discharged. Returning home Melvin wanted to still work for his country so he was employed with the Baton Rouge Fire Department for _____until retirement where he truly loved his job. Melvin was enrolled in United Theological Seminary School New Orleans Extension. After moving back to Baton Rouge, he furthered his education with the Baton Rouge Extension directed by Rev. Levert Kemp, while still maintaining his musical dream until his death.

Melvin leaves to cherish his fond memories his son Corporal Christopher Adams Sr. (Kimberly), daughters Nyra Adams, and Avis Adams all of Baton Rouge. A daughter that he reared and loved as his own Letitia Adams Smith. Four grandchildren Shanique Adams, Christopher Adams Jr., Christy Adams and Avianna Tate.Three great grandchildren: Ariana Adams, Taylor Burton and Christopher Adams III. Three step granddaughters Destanie Parker, LaCosha Williams, and Keishana Clark. Three brothers: Harry Adams, Donald Adams, of Baton Rouge, La., and Marcus Adams (Charolette) of Houston, Tx. Three sisters: Charlsena Adams Harris, Patricia Adams Ealy (Emery) of Baton Rouge, La. and Marica Adams of Houston, Tx. One Godchild Emerald Ealy of Houston, Tx. A special niece and nephew in law Tisha and Reginald Sanders.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charlie and Levanna Adams Sr., three brothers Charlie Adams Jr., Leroy Adams, and Roosevelt Adams, one stepson Joseph Adams, other relatives.
