LJ Harris, a brilliant soul, husband, father, papa, uncle, brother and friend, left his earthly home on May 1st, 2025. LJ was born is East Baton Rouge Parish to the late George and Inez Harris. LJ was a beacon of light illuminating the lives of those around him. He was united in marriage with Jerrilynn Holland-Harris on January 1st, 2004.
LJ accepted Christ as his lord and savior at an early age. He rededicated his life to Christ and was baptized in 2006 under the leadership of late Pastor Michael Johnson at Freedomland Missionary Baptist Church. After many years of service, LJ retired from Earl K Long Medical Center, where he was loved and respected by many. No one who met LJ was a stranger. His compelling passion for teasing and giving nicknames to those who knew him was one of his major trademarks, along with his radiant smile. He loved to eat to eat, spend time with family, and attend car shows. He was the Chevy Man with proud ownership of a 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle.
He leaves to cherish his beloved wife, Jerrilynn Harris. His 2 sisters, Pearlie Mae Gutter and Lorse Harris; 5 daughters; Monica Riley, Keosha (Vincent) Collins, Camry Jarvis, Chevelle and Jasmine Jarvis; 3 stepdaughters, Nicole Holland, Vanshander (Marcus) Walker and Maggie (Darius SR) Holland; 3 sons Kenneth Hughes, Anthony Hughes, and Javonte Harris; 2 stepsons Curtis and Devonte Holland. LJ also leaves behind a host of grandkids, great grandkids, nieces, nephews and cousins. w
LJ Harris is preceded in death by his parents, George and Inez Harris, his son Jalen Harris, siblings Eugene and Anthony Harris, Lee Clark, Murdis Wright, Ruth Collins, Leona Johnson, and Geraldine Young; grandchildren Destiny Nelson and Joshua Andrews; great grandson Jamarcus Nelson.
Rest in peace, dear LJ. Your love will forever echo in our hearts.
