Joan Melvin-Owens born on June 18th, 1957 in Fayetteville, North Carolina, to the late William and Lois Melvin, departed this life on May 5th, 2025 at Baton Rouge General Mic-City Hospice Center. She was preceded in death by her sister Gloria Raines and her brother Gary Melvin on Fayetteville, North Carolina. She is survived by her brother Terry Melvin of Ewing New Jersey and sister Karen Dobbs of Fayetteville, North Carolina; loving daughter Tamisha Simon, and son Clarence Owens III; Beloved grandchildren Tia Simon, Clarence IV, Legend Owens, Alayha, Gabriel and Kameron Ward; great grandchildren Tayden and Tannon Hayes; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; special friends Audrey Quincy and Chelsea Sanders.

Joan was employed at University Methodist Preschool of Excellence for many years. She considered her position there a labor of love more than work. Throughout her years there, she developed special relationships and looked forward to spending time with everyone.
