Obituary

Jimmie Dell Whitaker was born on July 26, 1959 to Ethel B. Whitaker in New Orleans, LA. He was baptized at an early age by Reverend Finley of the True Love Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, LA. He later joined Oasis Christian Church under the leadership of his brother-n-law in Baton Rouge, LA, where he remained a long, dedicated and faithful member until the passing of his wife.

Jimmie attended Baton Rouge trade school. His first job was at nine years old where he sold the Black News Leader paper on his bike. He often made seller of the month due to his high sales volume. He worked at Churches Chicken, the Baton Rouge Zoo, Burger King and roofed with his brothers. He later worked with Waste Management where he was a truck hopper. He left there after many years due to his health issues.

Jimmie was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, June Marie Wallace on November 15, 1986.

Jimmie loved his wife, June, dearly. One could always find him at home with June watching a football game, cooking or baking and cleaning their home.

On Sunday, January 11, 2026, God in his infinite wisdom and Agape love called Jimmie Dell Whitaker home to rest.

Jimmie leaves to cherish his memories, two sisters, Sadie Lodee Whitaker and Billie Jean Whitaker Gray, both of Baton Rouge; three brothers, Freddie Snell Jr., of Delhi, Louisiana, Clyde Whitaker (Anna), and Ronald Whitaker (Terry) both of Baton Rouge; three stepdaughters, Shawanda Sanders (Kenneth), Chalisa Sanders Allen (Willie), and Denise Sanders (Charles), all of Baton Rouge; two sister-n-laws, Shirley Wallace and Betty Wallace Cook, both of Baton Rouge; four brother-n-laws, Bishop Charles E. Wallace (Gladys), Melvin Wallace (Diana), Alvin Wallace (Elizabeth), Oliver Wayne Wallace (Brenda), all of Baton Rouge; nine step-grandchildren and six great step-grandchildren, all of Baton Rouge; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June Marie Wallace Whitaker, and his mother, Ethel B. Whitaker, his grandparents Leana and Richard Whitaker, his mother and father-n-law, Charley and Isabell Bradford Wallace, a step-granddaughter, Porcha Ty'nae Sanders; a brother-n-law; Roy Lee Bradford; and a sister-n-law Rita Wallace Franklin.
