Rev. Gennie Linn Warren, lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, peacefully transitioned from this earthly
life into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. His life was testament to perseverance, faith,
service, and unconditional love for his family and community.
Rev. Warren attended Scotlandville High School and, after overcoming significant life challenges, earned his GED
through Rosenwald Adult Education. Determined to never stop learning, he believed in reading the small print" and
became largely self-taught in many trades and practical skills that he generously shared with others. He received
formal training as an electrician, but God's calling on his life led him into ministry, where he faithfully served as preacher of the Gospel. Those who knew him will forever remember that, no matter where he preached, he always
ended his message with song that blessed everyone's hearts.
While ministry was his calling, fatherhood and grand fatherhood were his greatest joys. He cherished every
opportunity to pour into his children, grandchildren, and extended family, considering them his first ministry. His
love was steady, his wisdom was practical, and his presence was source of comfort and encouragement to
generations.
Rev. Warren also dedicated himself to serving his community. As longtime member of the East Baton Rouge
Housing Authority Commission Board, where he faithfully served as president for more than 20 years, he advocated
tirelessly for the people he represented. He was widely known throughout Scotlandville as dependable friend, helping hand, and familiar face. Until his health no longer allowed it, he could often be found walking the streets
of his beloved community, offering kindness, encouragement, and assistance wherever it was needed.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory his daughters, September Sims Warren Ralph) and Jena Sims Warren;
his son, Gennie Linn Sims Warren Sarah); his stepsons, Shamon Sims Tiffany) and Lyndon Sims Annette); along
with host of beloved grandchildren: Genisha Sims, Tiara Sims, Gennie Sims, Ilexia Sims, Amaya Sims, Tayari Ross,
Brilliance Sims, Jayceon Sims, Jakai Sims, Fredjanae Oxley, Lennox Oxley, Jalee Sims, Renada Dixon, Miranda Sims,
Santana Sims, Christina London, Amanda Thomas, Kerwin Thomas, Laila Benson, and Lyndon Thomas. He also
leaves behind great-grandchildren Timalisha Dixon, Tyrese Dixon, Desiree Dixon, and great-great-grandchildren
Dy'si Lathers, Giovanni Sims, and Bryari' Martin; his devoted cousin Donnell Knox, and host of cherished aunts,
uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched
by his love and generosity.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Girlie May Lacey Sims Warren; his sons, Troy Sims and Randall Sims;
his daughter, Gilbertrette Lady" Sims; his granddaughter, Icsis Dixon; his great-grandson, Timotheus Bowie, Jr.; his
brothers, Carl Worthy and Alvin Betts; his mother, Elizabeth Journigan; his father, Willie Warren; and his
grandmother, Frances Betts. Though his earthly journey has ended, Rev. Warren's legacy of faith, perseverance,
compassion, and service will continue to live on in the countless lives he influenced. His voice may be silent, but
the songs he sang, the prayers he prayed, and the love he shared will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew
and loved him.
Celebration of Life honoring Rev. Gennie Linn Warren will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Greater Allen
Chapel, 6175 Scenic Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70805. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the
funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Thomas Chapel Cemetery, 12555 Sunshine Road, Baker, Louisiana. Repast will be held immediately following the service.
