Corey Fitzgerald Payne was born on December 16, 1969 in Baton Rouge, LA to Edith Payne Blakes. He passed away on May 3, 2023, in Baton Rouge, LA. He was 53.

Corey was married to the late Jeretta Washington Payne and leaves to cherish his memories; a loving and devoted mother, Minister Edith Payne Blakes; two sisters, Ramona (Matthew) Trammel and Demetris Blakes; two brothers, Nathaniel Blakes Jr. and Alvin (Carol) Blakes; seven nephews and nieces, Bavu (Tifani) Blakes, Damali Asberry, Kamaria Blakes, Jahmal Blakes, Jabari Blakes, Naima Blakes and Danielle Brown, who was his pride and joy and go to person; one sister-in-law, Gwen (Robyn) Pope; four brothers-in-law, Darryl Washington, Edward Washington, Terry (Karonda) Washington and Hezekiah Washington; four aunts, Bernetta Payne, Cleopatra (Robert) Bethely, Evangelist Burtaniel Owens, and Velma Stewart; two uncles, Oceanus Payne and Franklin Payne, Sr.; a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeretta Washington Payne; grandparents, Cleveland and Beulah Payne; a brother, Jerome Blakes; three aunts, Ethel Isaac, Marie Hunter and Alzetta Blakes; and two uncles, Cleveland Payne, Jr. and August Payne, Sr.

Visitation on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 9am at St. Mary Baptist Church, 1252 N Acadian Thruway, until services at 11am.
